London-based housing association Threshold has signed a £27m contract with housebuilder Berkeley Homes to provide 166 homes for key workers through a shared ownership scheme.
The one- and two-bedroom apartments in the Chelsea Bridge Wharf scheme in Battersea, west London, will be of a similar specification to the neighbouring private units, with external landscaping and triple glazing as standard.
They will be valued at about £250,000. Key workers will pay up to £150,000 for a part-share of a property, and will then pay a monthly rent to Threshold on the remainder.
Threshold estimates that the cheaper properties will be affordable for households earning more than £25,000. The flats are due to be completed by November 2003.
