Wirefree products are becoming an option in many sectors of the industry. Here we look at some of the choices currently available to installers
Enter the Matrix
The Matrix 832+ is a hybrid wireless intruder alarm system from Pyronix. It features 868 Mhz narrowband transceiver technology, and is suitable for residential, commercial and industrial applications.
Pyronix says: "The Matrix Wireless System (MX-WS) allows the use of up to 16 wireless zones with MX-424, MX-832 and MX-832+, and 32 wireless key fobs. The system is based on FM transceiver (two-way) rolling code technology which also uses an advanced data encryption for high security applications."
The system also has an SAW filter for increased interference resilience.

Gaining WisDom
Rokonet says its WisDom wireless domestic security system is "the smartest wireless stand alone system available today".
"It is easy and fast to install, has unique installation tools and simple programming logic," the company says. "Wisdom's stability makes it the most reliable system on the market, which promises to provide years of trouble-free service. It has advanced diagnostic capabilities for the installer, such as threshold calibration according to actual environmental RF noise."
The 32 wireless zone system has a number of benefits for installers, Rokonet says. These include:
- Simple programming logic - fully menu driven
- Program Transfer Module for one step programming
- Wireless calibration and adjustable threshold level enables higher immunity to false jamming alarms
- Actual transmitter signal strength and RF noise displayed on LCD, eliminating the need for an external strength meter
- All detectors supervised for presence, low battery, jamming and tamper.

Mobile surveillance
Wireless CCTV provides wireless surveillance systems, combining "the very latest technology from the fields of mobile telecommunications and CCTV".
WCCTV's Wireless 'all weather' compact offers a rapid installation remote access solution, and has been tested in many applications, including fly tipping, anti-social behaviour, covert operations, construction, and crime hotspots.
WCCTV says it is "perfect for use in the harshest of operating conditions, and can be either mains operated or battery powered, which makes it extremely flexible. It has an integrated hard disk, giving users the option to view either live images or recorded footage from any remote location, which prevents unnecessary visits to site and avoids compromise of operation". The system comes in a military-style case, and it and the connectors are fully waterproofed. It can also be buried underground and still function at optimum levels.
"Each system is a completely portable, mobile unit that delivers live images to a PC, laptop or dedicated monitoring station," WCCTV says.

Improving vision
Croma Shawley has launched a new wireless CCTV system – 'i-vision' – which it says is suitable for "surveillance of temporary or permanent troublespots by police, local authorities, utilities, or transport operators".
The system incorporates 'King', Croma Shawley's new "plug and play" integrated head.
The system is a scaleable security solution, and features local disk space of 200GB, allowing long term recording and an on-board CD writer to facilitate the export of video, as AVI, to CD.
The i-vision system has the ability to add third party protocols when required. With a programmable event-driven multiple alarm interface, i-vision also features multi-zone video motion detection and video still detection. It allows simultaneous display, recording and playback of multiple cameras. Users can also define and implement multi-level camera patrols and sequences.

Protecting staff
7000 StaffPoint is the latest wirefree staff protection system from EMS Radio Fire and Security.
Based on the 7256 IRIS transmitter, 7000 StaffPoint is designed for use in all types of financial, healthcare, industrial or commercial premises where staff need the security of a reliable and high-integrity personal attack alarm, coupled with the freedom of mobility. Different types of personal alarm device are available, including pendants and the 7500 hand-push, which EMS claims can reduce system costs by up to 80 per cent.
Compliant with BS6799, the 7500 hand-push is a compact unit that can be belt or holster mounted. Three buttons provide simple operation for either a dual action or an assistance only alarm. The device provides visual confirmation of alarm activation with an optional vibration mode for physical feedback.

Top notch combination
FM Electronics' Pet Tolerant detector, combined with the FM4040 Universal Class 6 interface, has provided a successful solution for many installers adding to existing wired systems.
This combination can work into any panel with sufficient available zones for the application and provides all the outputs required to meet current requirements for police response. The interface will operate with any of the 4000 series detection devices including door contacts, inertia sensors and a range of PIRs. The Pet Tolerant unit has the ability to ignore a pet up to 25kg in weight, but still provide effective detection throughout a 12m 90 degree area.
The Class 6 Universal interface and wirefree detector combination has been proven to provide a reliable radio link up to 100m. This successful combination has been particularly effective when properties have been extended or outbuildings added and the alarm system has been considered after everything else is completed.

Out of the box
London-based BearBox has launched its BearLock GSM intelligent lock series which has no need for wires or a dedicated controller PC.
It features HiD's iClass technology, and is a GSM-controlled, high-security access control unit which can be installed on any door or device, allowing controlled access with the security of recorded entry. Each BearLock communicates wirelessly, over GSM, with the patented BearBox central control systems, and records the time uses of each card.
"The iClass-enabled BearLock allows business all the benefits of a standard on-line system in locations which would previously have been cost prohibitive, such as depots, storage areas, small offices and utility out-buildings," BearBox says. "Multiple buildings in multiple locations can all be controlled and monitored via any web browser using a simple interface."

Wirefree IP
IC Intracom's Network IP camera supports wirefree transmission and is based on the IEEE 802.11b standard.
The Wireless Network IP Camera allows users to view live, full-motion video from anywhere on the internet or a computer network using a standard web browser. Unlike conventional PC web cameras, it has a built-in CPU and can transmit high-quality video images for security, surveillance and other types of monitoring in homes, offices, banks, hospitals, nursing homes, amusement parks and many additional applications.
The camera can be remotely managed, accessed and controlled by any PC or notebook computer, and supports up to 100 simultaneous users. For maximum flexibility, open standards including TCP/IP networking, SMTP e-mail, HTTP and other internet protocols are supported. In addition, the camera can function in a mixed operating system environment.
The manufacturer says features include high image quality, direct image access, an enhanced application program interface (API) and user-based frame rate control. In addition, users can specify the time interval for internal clock synchronisation for time-critical security surveillance application.
