Low and behold: Annandale Primary School in Greenwich, south-east London, is to be converted into 136 flats even though the £30m redevelopment was originally turned down by Greenwich council.
Architect Stock Woolstencroft says the decision is a victory for the design and density aspirations of the mayor's London Plan over local council concerns.
Developer Durkan Homes will fit all the houses on just one hectare by building three low-rise "groundscrapers".
