In fact, in air conditioned buildings around the UK, energy costs have fallen by an average 3%. Non air conditioned building occupants have seen energy prices rise by 6% – but this is seen as a catch-up policy by the suppliers.
Jones Lang Lasalle predicted last year that energy prices would not fall again, but they have in fact dropped further. The OSCAR report says that even though the Climate Change Levy did have some influence in raising prices, the New Electricity Trading Arrangements created lower prices.
However, the report states that with further decommissioning of power stations, and consolidation of electricity companies, prices must stabilise soon.
Office OSCAR data is compiled from the service charge sums paid by occupiers to owners of multi-let buildings. The database contains 281 buildings, totalling over 15 million sq feet.
