Mace has been awarded the British Safety Council’s Sword of Honour for 2004, a prestigious international award across all business sectors. Mace was one of only forty organisations to receive the honour this year. Its selection was based upon the exemplary safety performance of the team at The Royal Bank of Scotland Group’s new headquarters in Edinburgh.

The award recognises organisations that have implemented world-class safety systems. You can apply only if your company has achieved the maximum rating in the Council’s health and safety management system audit and prove you promote safety from the board room to the shop floor.

The award is a coup for Richard Thorpe, project director at the RBS job. An outspoken advocate of better site conditions, Thorpe kicked off the CIOB’s Change in our Sites campaign in 2003 by challenging contractors to spend 10% of the project value on prelims.
