Makrolon sheets from Bayer Sheet have been used as the stage set of the Wagner opera Tristan and Isolde in Basel, Switzerland. The polycarbonate was selected as the main material for the impressive stage set due to its properties.

The set consists of 11 towers made of Makrolon that look like a pile of air mattresses. To get this effect, 460 ultra-thin polycarbonate sheets were drawn over a mold by thermal processing, giving them the shape of blown-up air mattresses.
