Portcullis House posed many challenges for Crown House Engineering. The site constraint of having a major London Underground station occupying most of the site from ground level down had a significant influence on building design. The normal urban solution of basement primary services distribution to each core was not available instead primary distribution is located in the roof voids.
The type of structure and the long lead in due to the reconstruction of Westminster tube station, meant that it was necessary for prefabrication of almost the entire Portcullis project. Crown House Engineering developed and maintained a 3D computer model to initiate the prefabricated building services assemblies and demonstrate to the design team the installation procedures and their space requirements.
The client's expectations were established against 12 key criteria and Crown House Engineering's performance was measured against these using regular surveys throughout the project.
Met the judging criteria very well; a very persuasive submission. Very high quality and innovative project. We liked the way the team demonstrated concern about client satisfaction
And the runners up....

The hq of Electronic Arts in Surrey is one of the UK's most innovative office buildings, and contains a wide range of state of the art building services. The building's design is heavy on glazing and computers with particular attention given to the need for flexibility in the future: sub letting or sub division.
