A major national study into the future of security in the UK is being launched by a university-industry collaboration. The study will assess clients' views of security, the value attached to security, and security effectiveness.

The study, called the Security Research Initiative, is being led by Martin Gill, criminology professor at the University of Leicester and director of Perpetuity Research and Consultancy International. It is supported by ASIS International, the BSIA, the Joint Security Industry Council, and the Security Institute.

"This is a unique opportunity to better understand the security sector," Gill said. "Our aim is to generate new insights and to better understand the role of security in a changing world. We are starting with a project on clients' views, then moving on to consider the value of security, and the effectiveness of security measures."
