BDP has completed work on the new station concourse at Manchester's Picadilly Station. The £45 million project was opened in early December, although it was in use throughout the period of the Commonwealth Games hosted by Manchester in July 2002.

BDP was appointed as mechanical and electrical engineering, lighting design, planer, architect and landscape architect. Client Railtrack wanted to give the station a 21st century image with improved passenger circulation and easier access for pedestrians and vehicles. A 7000 m2 concourse was constructed on two levels. The monopitch roof makes use of ethyltetrafluoroethylene (etfe) translucent panels to maximise daylight provision.
