When one of Malaysia’s high profile businessmen wanted to enhance his home, he looked to the favoured British method for home enhancement – a conservatory, fabricated by Bolton based Rooftec.
The brief to Rooftec was to design a 6.2m x 6.1m conservatory that would complement the aesthetics of the house, and that would be comfortable to relax in all year, despite the region’s climate. The design had to take into account the site limitations – of a protruding balcony.

Rooftec’s solution was to create a hexagonal free-standing conservatory with a ‘northlight’ above using the Aztec conservatory roof system, and glaze the roof elements with 10 sheets of 25mm Marlon ST Heat Guard Opal. This popular multi-wall polycarbonate is used primarily and extensively to create commercial canopies, conservatories and municipal and domestic swimming pool roofs. It offers a high strength to weight ratio, high impact resistance, Class 1 surface spread of flame, high optical clarity, insulation performance and light transmission of up to 88%.
