McBains Cooper, the multidisciplinary consultancy, has made a raft of appointments. In the project management division Barry Goode is moving up to associate director level.

Goode, previously with Skanska UK, joined McBains in 2001 as senior project manager in the London office. He will now take on a wider business development role, focusing on PM.

Goode’s current projects include the regeneration of Elephant & Castle in London and the redevelopment of Brighton & Hove.

In the QS division Paul Williams has also been promoted to associate director. He joined McBains three years ago as senior QS in the Birmingham branch.

He will focus on areas such as private education, social housing, urban regeneration and project monitoring on behalf of national banks.

Williams is currently providing preliminary procurement and cost advice for the refurbishment of 2,500 former council homes in South Yorkshire.

Two staff have been brought in from consulting engineer firm R W Gregory. Malcom Hardacre joins as mechanical associate director and Ed Bowditch joins as electrical associate director.

Meanwhile, two further people have been promoted to the board: Anthony Coumidis, who manages mechanical and electrical services in London and Zaki Ghiacy, who runs architecture in Oxford and who will now have responsibility for the delivery of services nationally.

Coumidis is mainly involved in PFI, residential, commercial education and ecclesiastical projects, ranging up to £40m. He is currently managing the development of the UK’s largest geothermal heat pump system at the £19m police HQ in Gloucestershire.

Chief executive Michael Thirkettle said staff in different departments would have to cooperate closely instead of operating in “separate silos”.
