Since the merger with the ASI, we have heard little of the new Architecture and Surveying Faculty. I do not agree with Ian Norris, the Faculty Director who argues that the CIOB, now consisting of a broad church of professionals, will be listened to in preference to organisations such as the RICS, which are supposedly a single discipline professional body.

The RICS consists of many professional disciplines. CIOB members, in contrast, have only one designation, that of a Chartered Builder, a truly single-discipline organisation if there ever was one.

Sadly the new Architecture and Surveying Faculty will surely be a toothless tiger in this respect, which was formed in all probability in the interests of swelling existing membership numbers.
