Minister of State for Energy, Malcolm Wicks, has announced a £30 million funding package over three years for the Low Carbon Building Programme (LCBP).

Wicks also announced that the government will bring forward £1.5 million immediately to assist with increased demand on the DTI’s Clear Skies and Major Photovoltaic Development programmes until the LCBP kicks in early in the next financial year.

The announcement of the new funding was made alongside details of the latest round of successful grants for the solar scheme: 15 new projects will receive a total of £1.09 million from existing monies for their solar installations.

Wicks said: “I am calling on major players in the energy field to expand the micro-generation sector, with particular emphasis on schools. We have already aided 184 schools and I am talking to Shell, EDF Energy, SSE and Scottish Power to examine ways of working together to achieve our aims.”
