Facilities management company Serco is in a two-horse race to win the 27-year PFI, worth an estimated £13bn, to supply the UK Royal Air Force with a fleet of Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft until 2030.
The Tanker & Transport Service Company consortium comprises BAE Systems, Boeing, Serco and Spectrum Capital. It plans to acquire, modernise and operate a fleet of 25-30 Boeing 767 aircraft.

Brown & Root, Cobham, EADS, Rolls-Royce and Thales make up the AirTanker group, which is promoting the use of the new-build Airbus A330-200.
