Trox has launched its new generation of CO2 refrigerant cooling systems for use in mission critical blade server data centres.

Currently providing 30 kW of cooling per cabinet, this is expected to increase to 40-50 kW. Trox claims the system can deliver up to 30 % energy savings over chilled water alternatives. CO2 as a cooling medium has a number of advantages: it is electrically benign and non-hazardous to servers and cabling, and its latent heat capacity means that with chilled water conditions of 6/12°C (flow/return) every kg of CO2 absorbs 7.22 times more energy than water.
