Congratulations on the publication of the new Guide K: Electricity in Buildings. I was extremely pleased to receive my own copy. As an electrical engineer, I have always considered myself to be a fairly rare bird as a member of CIBSE, and much of the design information that I have used over the years has been that produced by the NHS, the now defunct Property Services Agency and the City & Guilds training schemes 2381, 2391 and 2400.

Many electrical engineering degrees have been based on intakes from other industries, focusing on areas such as communications and transmission, and good design information on electrical building services has often been in short supply. I have always been very satisfied with my membership of CIBSE, and this year’s fees have been even better value for money.
