Further to the CIBSE’s response to Patrick Carroll’s letter regarding CEng status (BSj, 06/04), I would like to make your readers aware that the comments made by the anonymous respondent are somewhat misleading.
The CIBSE respondent stated that the Senior Candidate Route (SCR) to Fellowship and CEng registration ‘has permitted a number of Members and Fellows to gain the registration status previously denied them’ as the Engineering Council did not recognise the ‘Academic test’. The implication made is that the SCR to Fellowship is addressing a long-standing problem relating to the inability of Members and Fellows to gain CEng registration.
This could well be the case but it is my understanding that the SCR to Fellowship is also open to the non-corporate grades of Associate Member and Licentiate.
