Use of intelligent control in a motor control centre has brought savings in components and wiring, and reduced the space needed by the user firm.
Bradford-based panel-builder Southern & Redfern brought savings in cost and space to a utility contract by use of a specially designed motor control centre.

The ECA firm designed, manufactured, tested and installed a Form 4-Type 7 motor control centre (mcc) using the Siemens motor protection and control system Simocode-DP.

Simocode-DP is a programmable electronic overload and control device that is capable of protecting ac motors by monitoring motor phase current and winding temperature. Motor control is achieved locally by operator controls on the panel or by using a Profibus serial communication link. Control can be automatically switched to local if the Profibus communication is lost.

The IP54-rated mcc is of back-to-back construction and is Asta-certified. Savings were made on the components and wiring by use of intelligent control. These savings resulted in a reduction in unit size in comparison with conventional mccs.
