Gardiner Security and Connectix have launched a series of one-day training courses for installers aiming to move their business into commercial and residential networking.

Topics covered are Structured Cabling Installation, Network Testing and Troubleshooting, and Fibre Optic Termination.

Each has been designed to give attendees the confidence to install and test systems correctly, combining details on topologies, techniques and industry standards with hands-on experience.

The structured cabling installation course includes an introduction and industry overview, and sessions on installation practices, LAN topologies, link testing, verification and troubleshooting, and industry standards.

The network testing and troubleshooting course has four modules: a testing and troubleshooting overview; copper, voice cable and optical fibre testing; setting up and calibrating test equipment; and active equipment troubleshooting.

The fibre optic termination course features a module introducing fibre optics and looking at the theory of light; another on the bandwidths, specifications and constructions of fibre optic cables; fibre optic connectors; practical terminations using the Lightcrimps+ system; fibre optic test equipment, power meters and light sources; and health and safety.

The courses currently take place at Connectix’s purpose-made training facilities at Braintree in Essex, but dates and other locations could be varied depending on demand.
