Networking is an important aspect for any business. A professional institution is often seen as an ideal opportunity for networking between like-minded professionals. The Chartered Institute of Building is no exception and the range of local and national events continue to serve members well.
However, a new age of communication is dawning with exponential growth in the use of email and Internet. This new technology is rapidly breaking down the old barriers of distance and cost and the CIOB has a vital role to play in embracing this technology for the benefit of members.
Over 75 per cent of CIOB members have access to email and the Internet, providing a significant opportunity to network with other members wherever they are in the world.
To capitalise on this opportunity CIOB Professional Services has established 'CIOBnetwork', an email community to receive current industry news and to electronically network with other members of the CIOB or the service. Subscription to the service is free. All you need to do is email CIOBnetwork-subscribe@onelist.com
In a pilot scheme, subscribers have received current news on Constructionline, National Construction Week and key CIOB local and national events. Members have also begun to share knowledge with each other and to assist in responding to important industry consultation documents.
Do not be afraid that you will be swamped with hundreds of emails. The system can be easily configured to control how you receive the information. For example, it can be configured as an emailed daily digest. Or you can opt not to receive emails but visit the web site archive.
