UK swimming pools will be able to carry a plaque certifying that they conform to a code of practice.
The code, known as Publicly Available Specification 39, has been developed by the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group in association with the British Standards Institution. It covers the management of hydraulics, filtration, disinfection, monitoring and other issues affecting pool quality. There are sections on plant room, responsibility of management, and water treatment.
PTWAG has also worked with the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) to set up a system for assessing pools.
The ISRM has trained inspectors to check procedures against the new code of practice. To carry out an inspection for a pool to earn a plaque, the Institute charges £690+vat per pool.
