CIBSE has established a new Industry Education and Training Group to help attract more young people into careers in the sector.
It will also form strategies for education and training by matching the needs of employers with high quality graduates and trainees.
The Group’s key aims are to improve the quality, number and knowledge base of students; support colleges and universities by sourcing students, lecturers and industry panels; promote careers in building services to children of 14 years onwards.
Doug Oughton, past president of CISBE and interim chairman of the new group says: “There are too few children setting their sights on a career in engineering and this is putting pressure on courses and degrees in building services.
“Employers are similarly affected by skills shortages of qualified services engineers to the detriment of the UK construction industry.”
CIBSE sees itself as ideally placed to achieve these goals as an organisation which encompasses all areas of building services industry and academia.
The first me eting of the group will be in October this year. For more information contact Samantha McDonough, e-mail: smcdonough@cibse.org
