LG is introducing a range of vrf products under the brand name Multi V. initially available in two sizes – 3·3 kW and 7·5 kW, Multi V can power up to 16 indoor units from just one outdoor unit. Pipe runs of up to 125 m can be used with a maximum vertical height of 50 m. The outdoor Multi V unit features a high efficiency compressor and low noise/high static pressure outdoor fan. The indoor units can be any mixture of up to 16 cassettes, wall mounted, ducted or Art Cool units.
The outdoor unit also features an auto addressing function that provides automatic confirmation of each indoor unit, without the use of dip switches, thereby reducing installation time. During installation, commissioning and operation a self-diagnostic programme, using a pc or notebook, allows errors to be displayed.
What's in store?
Airedale has developed the Storemaster range of fully packaged air conditioners primarily for use in superstores, warehouses, department stores and other retail outlets. The single circuit, dx units offer either 50 kW or 77 kW cooling with hermetic tandem scroll compressors to optimise energy efficiency and reduce running costs.
The 50 kW unit features first stage free-cooling followed by mechanical cooling while the 70 kW unit makes use of dissimilar sized compressors to provide free-cooling followed by two stage mechanical cooling. The inclusion of a free-cooling economiser damper section offers a year-round running cost reduction with improved energy efficiency ratios, claims the company.
Systemair launches ahus for the UK market
Systemair has launched the Danvent DV air handling unit. The DV unit comes in a range of 12 different sizes with air volume capacities from 0·4-15 m3/s or 1·5-54 m3/s, making the unit suitable for a wide range of applications. The unit features a number of functions that can be applied to many different configurations, from individual fan units to advanced air handling systems. The ahu consists of shut-off and mixing dampers and belt-driven centrifugal fans with different types of high efficiency fan impellers.
The plug fans are direct-driven and feature low sound levels in the lower frequencies. To ensure casing quality, Systemair uses panels and frames that are protected against corrosion using alu-zinc. An ahu consisting of numerous sections can be quickly and efficiently assembled internally or externally using Disc-Lock, Systemair's assembly system. Inspection doors have been designed to make service access easy. They are mounted using solid hinges with easily detachable stainless steel pins, allowing them to be removed easily if necessary.
Heat recovery
Exhausto has launched the VEX100 series of heat recovery ahus. The range comprises of five models with capacities ranging between 400 m3/h and 7700 m3/h. The VEX140 range includes horizontal, vertical and ceiling models, while the VEX 150 and 160 units come in horizontal and vertical versions, and the VEX170 in horizontal only.
The VEX170 also comes fitted with an integrated control system, which uses the LonWorks open protocol allowing it to be integrated with other manufacturer's ddc Lon based systems. The controls are both preconfigured and commissioned before leaving the factory.
The units use a cross flow heat exchanger and have been designed to be compact in size, with the VEX170 having a surface area of 2·7 m2.
Imax family gets bigger
Ideal Boilers has launched a new floor-standing condensing boiler, available in outputs from 80 kW to 280 kW. The range includes six boilers that can be installed in multiple formation to provide even larger outputs if necessary. Using a sectional cast-iron heat exchanger, the Imax Plus is built from a series of linked 40 kW modules, each with its own burner fan, gas valve, ignition and safety controls. Every module has the ability to modulate down to 11 kW and after this minimum level, modules will be switched off to further match a reducing system. The Imax range operates at up to 96·6% efficient net (87% gross cv) non-condensing, and 108·4% nett (97·7% gross cv) at 30% load. The design of the Imax Plus enables it to match the load required by the system, ensuring these efficiencies apply to even the largest model. The boiler is classed as low NOx (Class 5).
Custom-built for CDM-R111 lamps
Thorn Lighting's Siros spotlight has been specifically designed to take the latest range of Philips 35 W CDM-R111 metal halide display lamps. Siros 111 is available for surface or track mounting. The bodies, which are adjustable through two axes: 360° horizontal and 300° tilt, are made from die-cast aluminium and are available in white or metallic silver finish.
There is a choice of lamp beam angles available (10°, 24° and 45°) so that the amount of light can be scaled very precisely to the needs of the application. Siros spotlights are also available for the 50 W 111 mm aluminium reflector and dichroic low voltage lamps.
Daikin's mini VRVII
Daikin has introduced a 'mini' heat pump version of its R410A VRV II air conditioning system, which will be on the market by the summer. The new system, designated VRV-S, operates on single phase electrical supply and comes in 11·2 kW, 14 kW and 15·5 kW capacities. The system is designed for installation in up to nine indoor unit applications. The 'night set' mode can be set on site to function over a nine hour period during which operating sound is reduced by 9 dBA.
The mini VRV-S incorporates the features of the VRV II, for example an inverter controlled scroll compressor with a dc reluctance motor, which maintains high efficiency levels in the most frequently used mid to low settings, thereby reducing electricity consumption and costs. The outdoor unit has a footprint of 320 mm deep by 900 mm wide, reducing installation space requirements by over 40% (14 kW model). Maximum piping length is 120 m with a vertical differential of 50 m between outdoor and indoor units.
Total control
Coster environmental controls has developed a control module for use with warm water underfloor heating systems. The Coster UPT-678 Controller offers control options from single zone on/off up to full differential or proportional temperature control of multiple zones with data acquisition and transmission and remote control functions. The unit can control up to five independent zones. The modular concept of the design permits systems to be built up to match virtually any requirement including full bems integration.
Weight loss
Danfoss has redesigned its VLT 5000, VLT 6000 HVAC and VLT 8000AQUA series of higher power ac drives. This means the units can now be housed in smaller enclosures, averaging volume and weight reductions of over 35% across the ranges.
Covering models from ratings of 90 kW up to 250 kW, the redesigned units offer the same operating software, dynamic performance and functionality as their predecessors, facilitating ease-of-transition to the new models. In addition to size reduction, the redesign has added integral disconnect facilities with the option of accessible fuses.
Slim quartet
Greenwood Airvac has launched four new slim Airvac heat recovery units. The units are designed for new build apartments that do not have space for loft installations or for retrofitting during the refurbishment of older homes.
The range provides full central mechanical ventilation with 70% heat recovery via a lightweight aluminium heat exchanger. The Airvac range can be mounted in a kitchen cupboard, over a cooker hood or in a loft. The domestic range extends from the MVHR70, suitable for homes with volume up to 340m3, through to the MVHR73 (up to 380m3), the MVHR75 (up to 460m3) and the MVHR78 (up to 720m3).
