From top to toe
Wilo has launched new versions of its TOP range of in-line glandless circulators for use in building and industrial applications. The TOP range has been designed for hot and cold water applications such as lthw and mthw systems, chilled water circulating systems, industrial heat transfer systems and boiler shunt duties.

The TOP range is capable of providing flow rates in excess of 50 m3/h in water temperatures ranging from -10°C to 130°C. The range includes the TOP-S and TOP-SD, single and twin head circulators, which feature one piece canned rotor motor design. Shaft seals are not required and the one-piece design is self venting and sealed for life.

Dedicated hotel fan coil system
Ability Projects has introduced an extensively upgraded version of its dedicated hotel fan coil system. Aurora II uses a control-integrated two pipe changeover fan coil unit, fitted with electric heating and supplied with chilled or lphw via a heat pump chiller on a seasonal basis. This suits the needs of room users who require short term cooling and heating cycles rather than extended operating periods.

Operation of the fan coil is regulated by a wall mounted Siemens lcd room temperature controller. This monitors and adjusts room temperatures during cooling and heating cycles, initiates automatic changeover and controls the electric heater and three-speed fan. The fan coil unit measures 755 mm by 516 mm and 235 mm. Capacities are up to 1·5 kW cooling with operating noise levels of NR25-NR30.

Himod range expanded
Emerson Network Power has introduced the Himod M to the Himod series of high performance air conditioners available under the Libert Hiross brand. With cooling capacities between 25 kW and 80 kW, The Himod M is suitable for data centres, web farms, telecom stations, hospitals, museums and process industries. Available in upflow or downflow configuration, the Himod M range also includes displacement versions that deliver air at relatively low speed across the floor, creating a temperature gradient in the room, from floor to ceiling. Some Himod M models are available in a ‘constant’ version. These units, all with direct expansion, are equipped with a hot-gas post-heating device with modulating features. The units can also be supplied in free cooling versions.

Variable duty splits

Vent-Axia has launched a range of remotely controllable variable-duty split air conditioning units. The WMI units offer cooling duties ranging from 2·0 kW to 5·3 kW, while heating outputs range from 2·9 kW to 6·1 kW – in heat pump mode.

Inverter control and dc motor drives help create and maintain the set conditions within the space. Fan power is also automatically controlled, with the additional feature of selectable high, medium and low speed operation to suit occupants’ requirements.

The wall-mounted WMI indoor units feature a motorised outlet louvre which rotates gently up and down, and vertical vanes within it which can be set to optimise sideways airflow as needed.

Dehumidification, washable filters and replaceable de-odourising filters complete the package.

Going up and down

Thorn has launched the Zep suspended T5 luminaire. Different combinations of reflectors and diffusers give a choice of four indirect/direct lighting distributions, varying from a 40/60 up light/down light split to an 84/16 split. High efficiency single, twin or triple 28 W or 54 W T5 lamps give maximum light output for minimal energy consumption. Zep features a clear acrylic panel on top of the luminaire to protect against dust and to ensure the design can be seen from all angles. The Zep is mounted via quick lock wire suspensions.

Supply and demand

Rycroft has introduced the Vari-E-breeze plate heat exchanger. The unit combines plate heater technology with a variable speed Grundfos Magna pump to give closer control of output and faster response. Vari-E-breeze senses the draw-off requirement and the Magna pump matches its speed to equal this – keeping demand and supply in balance. The unit is available in outputs from 0·25 litres/s to 4·0 litres/s. As well as time, temperature and pump control the standard controller offers an automatic night set-back, anti-legionella pasteurisation and bems compatibility.

Self calibrating sensors

Honeywell has introduced the C7110 series of self-calibrating wall sensors for CO2 and dual CO2/temperature sensing.

The dual unit features a set-point adjustment dial of the Celsius relative type (-5°C to 5°C) which can be easily replaced with a Celsius absolute type (12°C to 30°C). This model also includes an occupancy bypass button and an occupancy led; overrides can be triggered either by pressing the bypass button or controller’s internal programming. CO2 sensing accuracy is +/- 100 ppm or 7% whichever is greater, while temperature accuracy is within +/-3°C over the 15°C to 30°C range. The CO2 output can be configured on a pc using software downloadable from Honeywell’s website.

The dark side of the room

Lutron Electronics has launched the Sivoia QED (quiet electronic drive), an electronic drive for controlling blinds. The Sivoia allows for complete control of natural light for both residential and commercial applications. The design features a near-silent electronic drive (44 dBA at approximately one metre), minimal light gaps around the roller blind, simple installation and a flexible design.

The Sivoia does not require group controllers, relays or line-voltage wiring between electronic drive units. Programming can be reconfigured at the point of control without rewiring or access to the electronic drive unit.

Air heater for industrial units

Flakt Woods has launched a bespoke air heater designed for heating and ventilating industrial environments as well as retail and warehouse premises. The heater is available in two versions, the ADTA for hot water and the ATDG for steam.

The unit casing is made of corrosion protected sheet steel with pipe connections for both water and steam located at the side of the units. The coil is manufactured of copper tubes with aluminium fins. The motor, fan impeller and protective grille are constructed as one compact and combined unit.

The unit is capable of achieving air flows of up to 1·84 m3/s. Other features include single phase, 230 V motors or three phase 400 V power supplies.

High capacity R410A chillers

The Carrier AquaSnap Puron air-cooled chiller has been specifically designed to operate with R410A refrigerant. The chiller covers the capacity range from 190 kW to 760 kW and is available in cooling only or heat pump versions.

Puron is Carrier’s brand name for R410A and the company claims this is the first time that rotary scroll compressors have been used in conjunction with R410A in equipment of this size. To maximise efficiency at part load conditions the latest generation of Carrier’s Pro-Dialog control automatically detects and anticipates load variations, starting up only those compressors required. Linked to the electronic expansion valve Pro-Dialog improves use of the evaporator heat exchange surface to optimise energy efficiency at part load. The seasonal energy efficiency ratio means that at part load conditions the chillers deliver around 4·5 kW of cooling for every 1 kW or electricity consumed. The integrated direct expansion free cooling option can also further improve energy efficiency.
