The complete family
The latest addition to Thorn Lighting’s Line XS range is a minimalist circular pendant and wall uplight. The luminaires retain all the original features of the T5 suspended versions, including the slender oval shape and perforated sides with coloured foils to create a light accent. They are available in either white or grey and the pendant incorporates four 42 W compact fluorescent lamps.

Heating controls
Drayton has launched the LPSi range of heating controls, which are designed for tenanted properties. The unit’s control panel flashes and displays a message to let tenants know to contact their landlord when the annual boiler service is due.

Quality counter
Fluke has introduced a hand-held atmospheric particle counter for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning professionals to monitor air quality, measure filtration efficiency, locate particulate sources and determine maintenance and repair works. The 983 Particle Counter measures and displays six channels of particle size distribution, along with air temperature and humidity. It can classify airborne particles in size distribution steps between 0.3 micrometres and 10 micrometres in diameter.

Keeping an eye on the weather
The WXT510 weather station from Vaisala measures wind speed and direction, liquid precipitation, barometric pressure, temperature and relative humidity in one instrument. As the unit has no moving parts, it requires minimal maintenance. Wind speed and direction measurements are based on data from the company’s ultrasonic Windcap sensor, which ensures accurate readings from all wind directions without blind angles. Precipitation is measured using the Raincap sensor, which gives information on accumulated windfall, rain intensity and duration in real time.

Sharp exit
Cooper Lighting and Security has launched a new version of the JSB Legendlite self-contained exit sign. In addition to its improved viewing distance of 30 m, the restyled unit has a slimmer design and perforated underside, providing downlight to illuminate the area immediately below the exit sign in the event of an emergency. The unit comes with an 8 W T5 flourescent lamp and can be specified for operation in either maintained or non-maintained mode.

Air cooled expansion
Aiax has announced that it will be distributing Aermec’s NS range of air cooled chillers. The range comprises 37 models with nominal capacities from 150 kW to 1100 kW. The units run on refrigerant 134a and while the smaller units rely on a single compressor, the larger units use Daikin or Bitzer multiple compressors. The range is Eurovent certified and qualifies for the government’s Enhanced Capital Allowance.

In full flow
A dust segregation system that helps maintain sensing performance has been incorporated into Ormon’s two new airflow sensors. The D6F-WO4A1 and D6F-WO4A1 airflow sensors can measure air velocities from 0-1 m/s and 0-4 m/s with an accuracy of +/-5% full scale deflection.

Free and easy
Passivent has launched a new version of its Passive Stack Ventilation humidity sensitive extract. As with all Passivent PSV systems, the extract operates solely as a result of natural air movement and humidity, requiring no electrical connections and no operational input from occupants. The new circular design is smaller, but offers 25% greater free ventilation area when fully open, and is suitable for use in “wet” bathrooms and kitchens.

Light reaction
The Vitesse, Vitesse Plus and Rapid are three of the models in the new range of lighting controls from CP Electronics. The Vitesse has 10 pluggable outputs for ease of installation and commissioning and can be used with a range of control options including prescence detection and pluggable emergency lighting testing. The Vitesse Plus offers a higher level of functionality including photocell controlled and manual dimming, and corridor linking. Rapid, on the other hand, is a fully addressable, networked lighting management system that allows users to reconfigure their lighting in response to the workplace with no need to change the hard wiring.

Make it EZ
EZ-Path, a self-contained fire stop protection system for data-communications cabling and low-voltage wiring networks, has been launched by Cablofil. The system allows new cables to be added, or existing cables and wiring to be removed, whenever required without the need for additional fire stopping and without compromising fire safety or building security. The system is designed for installation through conventional fire-rated interior partition or structural walls. Each length of trunking is lined with an inert fire stopping material that expands under fire conditions to form a high-integrity seal against heat, smoke and fumes.
