The Association of Consulting Engineers is to change its name to the Association for Consulting and Engineering.

The name change is part of an initiative by ACE called Future Search, begun in March 2003.

After a review of the Association’s operation, ACE embarked upon a process of ‘refocusing, repositioning and restructuring’.

Three key goals have been identified: to represent and create a unified voice for the consulting engineering sector; to raise the profile of consulting and engineering; and to redefine ethics and values on issues.

One of the main aims of this new strategy is to rebrand and relaunch the organisation as the business association of choice for consulting engineers. ACE membership will be expanded to reflect changes in the industry. Its geographical structure will also be streamlined, as will the ACE board.

Commenting on the changes, ACE chief executive Nelson Ogunshakin, said: “This is a new direction, a new emphasis for consultancy and engineering that better reflects the role of engineers in society today.”

ACE is a business membership organisation, representing around 800 companies in the built and natural environment. Members work in the commercial building sector, transportation, utilities, energy and power.
