Make-designed urban quarter approved by London Borough of Haringey

A mammoth 1,000-home scheme in north London has been awarded outline planning permission by the London Borough of Haringey.

The Make-designed scheme will be built on the site of Hornsey’s old gas works and will centre around a new public square, named Clarendon Square.

The clients on the project are National Grid Property and the London Development Agency.

Adrian Cross, commercial property manager at National Grid said: “Haringey council’s decision to resolve to grant planning represents an important milestone in the regeneration of this strategically important site.”

London Development Agency director of development Stephen Kennard said: “Clarendon Square has the potential to create an exciting new community hub, with 1,000 new homes around a new public square. This decision will mean we can now move to the next stage and begin to find a developer for this former industrial site.”

Stuart Blower, partner at Make, said: “We are delighted that Haringey has granted approval for our masterplan on this important site. Extensive stakeholder consultation has been undertaken and we are thrilled to be a step closer to realising the vision of a residential-led scheme with quality open space, including a major new public square.”
