Developer behind Atkins' Anara Tower becomes the latest Dubai property firm to shed jobs

Tameer, a large Dubai property developer, is reportedly to make over half its employees redundant.

Sources close to the developer told the National newspaper in Dubai that 180 of the company's 350 employees would lose their jobs by the end of the year.

Tameer follows in the footsteps of developers Omniyaat and Damac Holdings, both of which have been forced to lay off staff as the financial crisis grips Dubai.

The developer employs several British firms including Atkins and RMJM. Atkins designed Tameer's 100-storey Anara Tower skyscraper on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, while RMJM has been supervising the design on its Tameer Towers development in Abu Dhabi.
