A public-private joint venture has launched a £300m mixed-use development at Spinningfields in Manchester city centre.

The joint venture between Allied London Properties, Manchester City Council and Manchester College of Art and Technology unveiled a 150 000 m2 regeneration masterplan.

Designed by Building Design Partnership, the masterplan includes 20 000 m2 of civic buildings, 70 000 m2 of offices, 20 000 m2 of residential apartments, two hotels and 20 000 m2 of restaurants, shops and bars.

Phase one of the project, which will start on site in 2000, will include a five-star hotel at the eastern end of the site on Deansgate and a 20 000 m² magistrates court with attached offices adjacent to Crown Square built under the private finance initiative. There will also be a luxury residential scheme at the western end, facing the River Irwell.
