Specialist Contractor Awards celebrate their achievement

Five hundred guests filled the Hilton Hotel last week for a celebration of construction’s specialist sector at Building’s annual Specialist Contractor Awards. Guests saw Lakesmere crowned overall specialist contractor of the year, after scooping the cladding contractor of the year title, as well as four runners-up places.

An evening of entertainment was kicked off by former England rugby star Rory Underwood, who regaled the audience with highlights from his sporting career, while comedian Fred MacAulay caused much mirth with his surreal take on the construction and sporting worlds. During the evening, guests took part in an auction and charity casino, raising funds for the Construction Youth Trust.

Awards were presented for outstanding achievement in 14 categories. Winners included Smoke Control Services, for M&E Specialist of the Year; Twintec took the title of Flooring Specialist; and fit-out contractor Mivan won the Design Integration award for its work on the Scottish parliament building.

And there was double victory for manufacture giant Yorkon — the firm won in the off-site category while director and general manager Keith Blanshard won the Personality of the Year award.
