Construction activity in the first quarter was the highest in two years, according to research from the Construction Products Association and Ernst and Young.

Product sales volumes recorded a score of 74, firmly above the 50 “no change” mark and the highest level since 2005. Product sales associated with interiors work were particularly high, reflecting the high workload to comply with the Part L regulations and government programmes to improve existing housing stock.

The CPA said that the industry anticipated a further strengthening in activity in the second quarter, benefiting from stronger private sector investment and a modest pick-up in government-funded work.
