Architect David Adjaye has submitted plans for the first phase of a £100m fashion retail hub in Hackney, east London.

Adjaye Associates has designed two buildings to form part of the scheme that will also involve the refurbishment of nearby railway arches.

The buildings will be eight storeys and provide 8,000m2 of shops, 600m2 for cafes or restaurants and 800m2 of mixed business and retail space. Developers Manhattan Loft Corporation and Chatham Works appointed Adjaye to design the scheme.

Hackney councillors are expected to decide on plans in September. If approved, construction work could start early next year.
