The consultant has been appointed project manager and cost manager by Cardiff City football club to expand its stadium capacity by 5,000 to 33,000, in part to get ready to host the UEFA Super Cup this summer.

The UEFA Super Cup pits the winner of the Champions League and Europa League against each another, and last year was won by Bayern Munich, which beat Chelsea on penalties after the match ended 2-2.

The project involves a fast turnaround to extend the stadium, with a 13-month window between the contract award and the UEFA Super Cup match on 12 August.

Aecom has also been confirmed as cost manager and technical advisor on the £280m Circuit of Wales project (pictured), after the scheme won planning permission last autumn.

The scheme for client the Heads of the Valleys Development Company involves building a motorsport complex and a 5.6km track to host events such as MotoGP, World Superbikes, World Motocross and World Touring Car.

Spanish contractor FCC and local civil engineer Alun Griffiths (Contractors) won the contract to build the race circuit in 2012.
