Project services firm will continue as standalone operation

Amec has bought UK project services company Rider Hunt International (RHI) from its owner-managers for £25 million in cash.

Godalming-based RHI provides project services to the oil, gas, chemical, energy and process industries and is active in 15 countries, including Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. It has a professional staff of 240 people.

RHI, which was established in the 19th century, will continue to be operated as an independent business, with Amec facilitating its growth.

Neil Bruce, chief operating officer of Amec's natural resources division, said: “Acquiring RHI is an important step in our strategy of providing best in class consultancy services in programme and project management in the energy industries.

“RHI has some of the very best people and proprietary systems in the business and provides an excellent geographic fit with Amec's footprint in mature and frontier regions.”

Jim McFarlane, managing director of RHI, said: “We are pleased to combine our capabilities with Amec, to form a leading project management consultancy to access opportunities in energy markets worldwide. Amec's strong customer relationships and geographic footprint will allow us to grow with greater speed.”
