Amec is to split its results into three this year to reflect its increasing interest in client services.
he firm's preliminary results, due on 7 March, will report on the newly created client support service business, as well as its capital projects and investments arms.

An Amec spokesperson said the move was intended to provide observers with as much information as possible about the firm.

He said: "Focusing more on long-term client relationships and support service areas has been our strategy for some time, and we are building upon it year on year. There is logic in having three business segments. Hopefully, it will remove some ambiguities about Amec for everyone who watches us."

Amec took a step away from traditional contracting last February through its £221m merger with Canadian engineering design group Agra. The firm also bought environmental consultant Ogden Environmental and Energy Services in November for £12m.
