A four-storey block of flats in Liverpool city centre had to be evacuated on Monday, after a tower crane fell onto it

The accident, which left residents trapped inside, happened on Bowmer & Kirkland’s Kings Dock Mill site, a £28m mixed-use complex by developer Bradco 714.

The crane was one of two Wolff 550B luffing jib cranes in use.

The crane operator, who was thrown from his cab as the crane collapsed, is in hospital. The Health and Safety Executive is investigating. This week Rita Donaghy released her report into improving safety in the industry.
