Arcadis has joined forces with offsite construction specialist Caledonian.

Specifically targeting the residential sector, the two will work to develop new modular designs for housing and provide a full service from initial design concepts through manufacturing, construction and completion.

Arcadis will provide design and construction management support to the new partnership, while Caledonian will focus on building its manufacturing and delivery capacity.

The consultant’s agreement follows its appointment of Jim Totton as its new technical director for modular buildings design and delivery.

Marcus Fagent (pictured), sector managing director for public buildings at Arcadis, said: “In the last three years we have played a leading role in developing pre-fabrication technologies, to the extent that it is now the default technical solution for all education buildings. We are now seeing this success starting to be replicated in the residential sector.

Paul Lang, chief executive of Caledonian, added: “This partnership enables us to leverage design and delivery resources from a large multi-disciplined consultancy to jointly develop precision manufactured solutions for the residential sector. The application of Design for Manufacture and Assembly techniques offers a full turnkey solution.”
