Lend Lease awards first athletes’ village contract to build 300 apartments, as shortlist is revealed for next three jobs

Contractor Ardmore has won the first Tier One contract to build part of the residential development on the athletes' village for the 2012 London Olympics.

Lend Lease, which is development manager on the project, and the Olympic Delivery Authority confirmed this morning that Ardmore had pipped Galliford Try and Wates to the job, which will involve the construction of 300 apartments on one of the site's residential plots.

Olympic organisers also announced that 15 companies had been shortlisted for a further three Tier One contracts to build five residential plots. All the contracts are expected to be let by the end of the year.

After the Games, the blocks will be converted into a mixture of affordable housing and flats for sale.
