RHWL's theatre design practice will design and extend the Victoria Palace Theatre in London

Specialist theatre architectural practice Arts Team has been appointed to design the extension and redevelopment of the Victoria Palace Theatre in London.

The theatre dates back to 1911 and was home to the original production of Me and My Girl and the first London production of Annie. It now houses the Elton John musical Billy Elliott.

It was originally designed by the Victorian architect Frank Matcham, who designed over 80 theatres in the UK.

Arts Team director Norman Bragg said: “It is an exciting prospect for the Arts Team to yet again be working on a Matcham theatre after the recent success of our work to the Belfast Grand Opera House and London Coliseum.”

The redevelopment of the theatre is being carried out as part of wider works to Victoria Station and the surrounding area.
