Stanhope-led construction services portal Asite has received a boost by securing BAA as a shareholder.
Mike Roberts, group technical director of BAA, said the move could lead to huge savings.

He said: "We constantly need to upgrade our infrastructure to meet the growing demands for air travel. There's no doubt that the future of cost-effective project management lies in this sort of online procurement, collaboration and knowledge sharing." BAA's construction budget, including Terminal 5 at Heathrow, is about £6bn over the next 10 years.

Asite was launched last October to provide project management, knowledge exchange, materials buying and auctioneering.

Other shareholder clients include real estate group Tishman Speyer, property firm British Land and insurance group Legal & General.
