Lewisham Southwark College’s new campus won’t fully open until after term starts

Balfour Beatty is two months behind schedule on a £40m college campus in south London, Building can reveal.

The contractor was meant to complete work on Lewisham Southwark College’s new campus (pictured) in Southwark last month.

But work on the project is now not expected to complete until after the new term starts on 12 September.

Construction work will now continue around students, with Balfour’s hoardings in place for at least 10 days after the term starts. A Balfour Beatty spokesperson told Building: “We are working with Lewisham Southwark College to ensure that the Southwark campus will be open for the start of the new term in September.”

Construction on the project started in January 2015 after Balfour won a deal to design and build the six-storey campus opposite Southwark tube station.
