Lee Hewitt previously worked as programme director on HS2
Balfour Beatty has announced the appointment of Lee Hewitt as its UK Health, Safety and Environment Director, replacing the retiring Heather Bryant.
Hewitt, who will take up the role on 5 September, is relatively new to the contractor, having joined in 2020 to work on a HS2 project.
Most recently he worked as programme director for site-wide delivery and logistics on HS2 Area North, the northernmost section of the London-West Midlands link, which includes the two stations in Birmingham and is being delivered by a joint venture of Balfour Beatty and VINCI.
In his new role he will be responsible for driving the company’s zero harm strategy across the group, working closely with leadership teams and the board’s safety and sustainability committee.

Leo Quinn, Balfour Beatty Group chief executive, said: “With his extensive deep domain knowledge and understanding of the industry from leadership and project-based roles, I know that Lee will continue to drive this agenda forward across Balfour Beatty, and I am pleased to welcome him to the Group.”
He also thanked Heather Bryant for her eight years of service, during which period the firm’s lost time injury rate dropped by 50%.
