Lee Hewitt previously worked as programme director on HS2

Balfour Beatty has announced the appointment of Lee Hewitt as its UK Health, Safety and Environment Director, replacing the retiring Heather Bryant.

Hewitt, who will take up the role on 5 September, is relatively new to the contractor, having joined in 2020 to work on a HS2 project.

Balfour Beatty’s lost time injury rate has dropped by 50% since 2014

Most recently he worked as programme director for site-wide delivery and logistics on HS2 Area North, the northernmost section of the London-West Midlands link, which includes the two stations in Birmingham and is being delivered by a joint venture of Balfour Beatty and VINCI.

In his new role he will be responsible for driving the company’s zero harm strategy across the group, working closely with leadership teams and the board’s safety and sustainability committee.

He also thanked Heather Bryant for her eight years of service, during which period the firm’s lost time injury rate dropped by 50%.
