Quoted contractor claims £390m of contracts, more than twice as much as nearest competitor

This week Building publishes the first monthly contractors’ league produced by our sister company ABI Building Data.

ABI’s figures include UK contracts with a construction value of £100,000 or above, and all contracting work that has been awarded by negotiation or competitive tender, including residential and civils work.

Under ABI’s criteria, quoted powerhouse Balfour Beatty took the top spot for work won in June by snapping up 87 contracts worth more than £390m. Most of that work was won in the public non-housing sector (£186m), followed closely by infrastructure and civils contracts (£136m).

Kier came in second but won less than half the value of Balfour’s contracts in June. It won 70 contracts worth a total of £152m, with a slight emphasis on the commercial sector.

Balfour Beatty also took a convincing first place in the annual league, with contracts worth almost £3.3bn.
