Balfour Beatty regains top spot with £395m contracts

Balfour Beatty has regained the top slot in the monthly contractor’s league, after slipping to third place last month.

The contractor won 96 contracts in October, worth a total of almost £395m. The single biggest of these was a £171m roads contract, awarded by the Highways Agency in Bedford. Its other major wins were also in the public sector.

Balfour’s closest rival was Mowlem, which won 74 contracts worth almost £185m, although this comprised less than half the value of those won by Balfour Beatty. Mowlem’s biggest win was a £28m sports complex in Doncaster.

Little changed last month in the rolling annual league, in which the top 13 companies retain their positions, with Balfour Beatty still dominating at the top with 713 contract wins over the last month, worth £33.36bn.

At the other end of the annual top 30, Leadbitter just missed out at number 31, but with £185m of contracts under its belt it was catching up with Sisk on £191m.
