HOUSEBUILDER Barratt this week unveiled pre-tax profit up 21% to £41.2m for the six months to 31 December 1998.

This was on a turnover up 11% to £431.9m, compared with £388.3 in the previous year. Earnings per share rose 22 % to 12.2p. Barratt declared an interim dividend of 3.56p, an increase of 8% on the same period last year.

Barratt's operating profit was up 22% to £43.2m; return on capital was 25.3%.

The firm increased its UK landbank in the six months to £40m, or 27 438 plots, 2238 more than the previous year.
