Scottish-based RB Farquhar has called in the administrators

Family-owned bathroom pod manufacturer RB Farquhar has fallen into administration following the downturn in the construction market and an unsuccessful expansion into the Middle East.

The directors of Aberdeenshire-based RB Farquhar Holdings called in administrators from KPMG yesterday. However, the firm’s storage and hire businesses which provide temporary accommodation will continue to trade as normal.

As well as its base in Scotland, the firm has a manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic and at one point it was producing over 10,000 pods a year with customers including Travelodge, Holiday Inn and Radisson. In 2008, the company opened a factory in the United Arab Emirates as part of its plan to grow in the Middle East.

Currently no redundancies have been made but this is under review.
