Work has begun on the UK’s first carbon negative development in Beeston, Leeds.

The £26m Greenhouse project, by West + Machell Architects for developer Citu, will create 172 one, two and three-bedroom apartments in a former workers’ hostel. It will have ground-source heat pump technology, a rooftop solar thermal system and a 100m-high wind turbine that will be the tallest structure in Leeds. The development is part of the Beeston Hill and Holbeck regeneration programme by Leeds council.
