Police probe eight-year-old’s tragic death

An eight-year-old boy has died after being hit by a mobile crane.

The accident, which involved a vehicle owned by James Jack Lifting Services, happened on the Great Northern Road in Aberdeen at around 7.30pm last night.

Police Scotland today named the victim as Kyle Allan from the city’s Northfield area.

A force spokeswoman could not confirm what construction project the crane was involved with.

A statement from James Jack said the firm was supporting the inquiries of all relevant authorities and would share more information as and when appropriate.

It added: “Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the child and our crane operator.”

A company spokesman said that the crane had been returning to the company’s depot at the time of the accident, and was not on lease to another client.

Police Scotland urged witnesses to contact its 101 non-emergency line, or via  the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555111.
