£100m mixed-use project for Scottish & Newcastle crowns triumphant month for contractor

HBG stormed into first place in the April contractors’ league, after winning 14 jobs worth a total of £226m. Its biggest single win was a £100m mixed-use scheme for brewer Scottish & Newcastle in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh.

The construction arm of Gladman Developments came in second as a result of a single £103.5m contract on a distribution site in Retford, Nottingham, where it is also the developer. Bovis Lend Lease climbed 14 places to third, after winning four projects worth £91m.

Bovis kept its top spot in the annual league, although its dominance has been eroding in recent months.

There was little movement in the architects table, with the top eight practices maintaining their position. In the QS league, Gardiner & Theobald rose one place to second.
