One Britain development aiming to bring one planet principles to the South East

Properties in one Britain the environmentally sustainable residential scheme, are to go on sale this weekend. One Britain, consisting of 172 studio, one, and two bedroom apartments, is the result of a JV partnership between the development firm Crest Nicholson (South East) and BioRegional Quintain. The properties have been built in accordance with the “ten guiding principles” of the “One Planet Living Concept”.

Energy strategy

One Britain will be powered by energy from renewable sources. Hot water and space heating will be provided by an on-site biomass boiler which will burn locally sourced woodchip from tree surgery waste, discarded wood pallets, and saw mill cut-offs. The site’s electricity will mainly be provided by off-site renewable sources, supplemented with Photovolatic (solar) panels, and eight wind turbines located on the roof.

One of the developers’ targets for the site was to make sure 25% of all materials used were recycled. To this end, concrete used on the scheme contained aggregate sourced as a by-product from the clay industry of Cornwall.
